  • Homemade Baby Wipes, Are they worth it?

I tweaked the original Homemade Baby Wipes Recipe just a smidge.  Instead of 1 T of rubbing alcohol, I reduced it to 1/2 T of rubbing alcohol.  I prefer them with the added baby wash.  I also switched from Bounty to Viva paper towels on Laura's (thanks for commenting, I can't find your site) recommendation.  I price checked the brand name baby oil and baby wash but you can save even more with the generic.  I am using a 50 sheet roll of papertowels.  So, I used half the liquid ingredients.

Johnson and Johnson Baby Oil at $3.50 for 20 ounce bottle.  Used 1 T.

Johnson and Johnson Baby Wash at $3.75 for 15 ounce bottle.  Used 1/2 T.

Rubbing Alcohol at $1.29 for 16 ounce bottle.  Used 1/4 T.

Viva paper towels at $1.21 per roll.  (I bought the eight pack to get the extra savings.)  Used 1/2 roll.

Divide, multiply, and add.  It comes out to $0.77 for 50 wipes.

  • Homemade Baby Wipes

    Lovin' these!

Homemade wipes work great.  They're a little thinner than the wipes I'm use to.  Even still, one wipe goes a long way.  They definitely get the job done.

The recipe came from the book, The Duggars: 20 and Counting! by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.  I love this book!  But just like all recipes, I've tweaked it to my liking.

Cut a whole roll of Bounty or Viva paper towels into two halves.  (Brand name counts.  The cheapies will be a disaster.)  Use an electric knife for best results.  I don't have an electric knife so hubby helped me and we made do.

Place one of the halved rolls vertically in an empty and thoroughly cleaned one gallon ice cream bucket.  Depending on the size of your paper towel roll you will want to adjust the recipe.  For a large 100 sheet or more roll use the following measurements.  Reduce for a 50 sheet roll.  In a jar mix 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons baby oil, and 1/2 tablespoon rubbing alcohol.  The Duggars said one tablespoon of baby bubble bath is optional.  I add it.

Pour the liquid over the halved roll of paper towels in the ice cream bucket, and soak for thirty minutes.  Remove the cardboard center.  Feed the top corner from the center of the paper towel through the X-shaped slit you've cut in the lid of the ice cream bucket so you can pull out and tear off one "wipe" at a time.
