They keep me humble . . .
We took the family out to eat and of course all the girls had to go to the bathroom. We have a very pleasant and clean bathroom at home. I always urge them to take advantage of it before we leave. But nevertheless, we always use the public restrooms. I've seen every restroom between here and Florida. Did I mention that I HATE public restrooms? Having had three girls consecutively, Brian has not experienced this fully. As we enter the bathroom a man is behind us. Out of confusion I check the sign on the door and see that we are definitely heading into the ladies room. Oh, it is not a man
. Once we are in the stall, Emrie says, "Mommy, did you see that man come in here?" "Emrie, shhhhh. Use the potty." Why I thought that would end the conversation, I have no idea. Had I been on my toes I would have used the "mommy means business" voice and face right away. I guess I was preoccupied with not catching public restroom germs. "MOMMMMMYYY, did you see that MAN come in here?" In a very whispery mommy voice with the full mommy face, "Emrie, shhhhhh!" In the stall beside me, I hear Gracie say, "Katie, did you see that man in the girls bathroom?" At which point I realize I must "let it be" and let out a very quiet laugh. Emrie says to me, "Whatcha laughing at Mommy?
" Those kids, they keep me humble.
