The Best of Everything
You've heard it said and you've probably even said it, "I want my children to have the best of everything." It is natural as a parent to desire for your children to have the best education, a good home, nice clothes, great toys, enriching activities...Unfortunately, our resources are limited. Even Donald Trump has a limit. (ahhhmmmm, hmmmm, cough, cough) Not as limited as my resources but even still limited.
As parents we have to use discretion. We have to determine what is the "best" for our children. The chief and I keep a 50 cent notebook. We call it Trent Tribe Destination. You see, if we plan to set out somewhere, we gotta have directions. We gotta have a map, a compass, a GPS... We can't just aimlessly wander and "accidentally" end up where we want to go. We gotta have goals. We record our goals in Trent Tribe Destination. We establish our long term goals. We follow that up with smaller short term goals that will ultimately help us achieve our long term goals. Periodically we evaluate them. We give our family a check up to see how we are doing.
Our ultimate goal? That our children come to know our Savior Jesus Christ. That our lives line up with God's word. That we as parents practice rather than preach. We still do plenty preaching to them, lol. But it is what we practice that they hear.
An eternity in heaven is the best of everything. Salvation changed the course of my life more than any "thing" my parents gave me. The bible stories read, the scripture taught, the Sunday's in church, how the acted when they were wronged, the way they treated others, the love they showed...those I remember. That's the education I draw from daily. Let's give our children the best of everything.
