Guest Post: The Lion's Roar
The chief is guest posting today. He posted this over at his blog but it was so good that I asked him to share it here.
He Inchi Ya Nani - Yangu, Yangu, Yangu!
Today my mind has been focused on the lion. I heard this incredible lyric at church this morning about hearing the lion’s roar and I have been consumed with it all day. Personally I’ve never heard a lion roar, but I could imagine how awesome it would sound. If you were part of the same pride it would be a sound of comfort and protection, but on the other hand if you were an enemy of the pride it would be a sound of danger.
An average lion weighs 330 to 430 pounds, lives between 12 and 15 years, and its roar can be heard over a distance of 5 to 6 miles. Its roar serves to let other members of the pride know where they are, and as a signal to enemies to stay away. The Africans believe that the lions are speaking and saying, "He inchi ya nani – yangu, yangu, yangu" or "Whose land is this? It’s mine, mine, mine!"
Revelation 5:5 says, “"Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed.” How loud is the roar of the lion of Judah? It is so loud that it can be heard throughout time. The roar is so loud that it can be heard throughout the entire universe. He is roaring over his church. His roar is a signal for the church to know where we are, and a signal for the enemy to stay away from what is his. The Lion of Judah is saying “he inchi ya nani – yangu, yangu, yangu”!
