Two-Facebook
*Two-facebook = our good friend Shane F.'s name for fb
Recently, a New Jersey pastor made the news because "he is ordering about 50 married church officials to delete their accounts with the social networking site or resign from their leadership positions". There are some valid points in this news article. My husband and I from the very beginning exchanged log in information and at any time either of us can log in to each other's accounts. Even still, there are some sobering and dark aspects to such a public forum.
I'm not saying I don't love facebook. Actually I do. I love seeing what's going on in the lives of my friends close by and far away. I love reconnecting with classmates and old friends. I love being able to send a quick message or share a link to something encouraging.
So then, why is it the chief and I have often considered deleting our accounts?
So many people vent on fb. They air their dirty laundry on fb. I know they would never in real life say the things they post on facebook. They would never stand before an audience with a microphone and a spotlight to proclaim for the whole world their rant. Yet, when they post on fb it is exactly that - a microphone with a spotlight. Facebook is not a private journal to think out your true feelings.
Remember, what our mommas taught us still applies. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
