  • Homemade Baby Wipes

    Lovin' these!

Homemade wipes work great.  They're a little thinner than the wipes I'm use to.  Even still, one wipe goes a long way.  They definitely get the job done.

The recipe came from the book, The Duggars: 20 and Counting! by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.  I love this book!  But just like all recipes, I've tweaked it to my liking.

    100_1553

Cut a whole roll of Bounty or Viva paper towels into two halves.  (Brand name counts.  The cheapies will be a disaster.)  Use an electric knife for best results.  I don't have an electric knife so hubby helped me and we made do.

    100_1551

Place one of the halved rolls vertically in an empty and thoroughly cleaned one gallon ice cream bucket.  Depending on the size of your paper towel roll you will want to adjust the recipe.  For a large 100 sheet or more roll use the following measurements.  Reduce for a 50 sheet roll.  In a jar mix 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons baby oil, and 1/2 tablespoon rubbing alcohol.  The Duggars said one tablespoon of baby bubble bath is optional.  I add it.

    100_1552

Pour the liquid over the halved roll of paper towels in the ice cream bucket, and soak for thirty minutes.  Remove the cardboard center.  Feed the top corner from the center of the paper towel through the X-shaped slit you've cut in the lid of the ice cream bucket so you can pull out and tear off one "wipe" at a time.

  • 39 Dollar Glasses Coupon Code

I've been wearing my 39DollarGlasses for over eight months now.  I still love them!  What sets their glasses apart from other discount glasses is that they sell high quality glasses at a discount.

All items sold on 39DollarGlasses.com are FSA eligible and  remember Dec. 31 is almost here.  (In addition to eyeglasses for adults, they sell bifocals, kids, safety...)

Use this coupon code before 1/1/09 and save an additional $10 - FSA908

Get your prescription from your eye doctor.  If you can, have your doctor measure your PD.  If you can't the website gives step by step instructions for measuring it yourself.

I had my mom who's an Opthamology Nurse look over my glasses.  She loves them and had my brother order some.

Now some of you will say, "but I need to try my glasses on."  I suggest you go to an optical shop and try on glasses.  Look at color and shape. Now, go to 39DollarGlasses.com and order glasses that are the same color and same shape.

When my glasses came in, they felt great but to be on the safe side I went to Walmart's optical shop and asked them to adjust my glasses.  They offer free adjustments.  The optician worked on them for about 5 seconds, looked at them on my face and said they really didn't need any adjustments.

    I  39DollarGlasses.com!

  • Frugal Holidays - Gifts from the Heart

Anybody can go out and spend a lot of money on a gift without putting much thought into it. But how many people can use their creativity to give thoughtful gifts without spending a lot of money?

Instead of spending money we don't have, focus on giving gifts from the heart.  Gifts that are special not because of how much they cost, but because of the sentiment given with them.

A sweet friend gave me a pair of cozy socks because she wanted to give me the gift of "putting my feet up".

A few years ago, a mother of two of my Sunday School students gave me a snowman that lit up.  She thanked me for "shining my light" to her children.

I gave a friend a box of her favorite mints and thanked her for being a "breath of fresh air" when I need it most.

Something inexpensive and simple can become something really special with the right sentiment.  So come on, let's hear your ideas for simple gifts with special sentiments...  frugal gifts from the heart.

  • Unfrugal Friday

I must confess that on this Friday, I am doing a very unfrugal thing.  I'm Christmas Shopping with my mom.  It's our fourth annual pre-Thanksgiving trip.  I suppose all is not lost.  After all, I have my coupons in hand.     My budget is memorized.  My list is made.  I guess you can take the frugal out of friday but you can't take the frugal out of the girl. Pretend you didn't read that.

  • It's Frugal Friday, don't ya know?

My Frugal Friday post is here

Now have a great Friday, kay?

  • Pumpkin Spice Muffins

I can't remember how I found The Full Table, a blog devoted to frugal cooking but I'm sure glad.  I made the Pumpkin Spice Muffins and they were a huge hit!  You'll have to go to The Full Table for the recipe.  It makes 30 muffins for aproximately $2.00!  They are delightful!

    100_1381 100_1382

As you can see, they were disappearing quickly!  I made 24 regular muffins and 24 tiny muffins.

We are planning to try the chicken pot pie next (serves 8 - 12, cost is aprox. $7.50).

Be sure to check out more Frugal Friday tips at Biblical Womanhood.

  • Lipstick

Y'all know I love a good sale.  Combine a good sale with a coupon and we're getting somewhere!  Someone asked me today what kind of makeup/foundation I wear.  My reply, "Whatever I have a coupon for and can find on sale."  Coupons and sales get me over brand loyalty, quickly.

Every now and then (hardly ever), I'll try a product that just captures my heart and can't be replaced.  Like the Burt's Bees Baby Lotion.  Another one of those products is Color Stay lipstick.  The whole reason I love it ...  Are you ready for it?...

I can kiss my baby and lipstick doesn't get on his face.

That's it.  In a nutshell.  I've tried to break my Color Stay addiction.  Really, I have.

I have plain old lipstick.  And I always think, surely I can wear regular lipstick.  After all, it's so much cheaper.  I put on the lipstick.  Love the color.  A little later, I find myself baby kissing.  What's that on his face?  Oh. Lipstick.

    lipstick

I hate that!  Don't go leaving lips on my babies, 'kay?

Frugal or not, Color Stay is what works for me!

So, here's what I do - I don't care if its Revlon, Maybelline or Cover Girl.  I've used all their long lasting color lipstick and they're all great.  I watch closely for sales.  I guard my coupons and when the moment's right - I buy my lipstick!  I can't live without it, so, I find creative ways to get it for less!

Something you've been wanting or just can't do without?  Find a way to get it cheaper!  You don't have to deprive yourself.  Just be creative and find a way to get it for less!

No Frugal Friday at Biblical Womanhood.  She's still moving her family.  Anyone else needin' some Frugal Friday?
