  • Happy Fall, Y'all!

    It's fall at my house.

The girls and I had some extra time on our hands this weekend and we took a notion to decorate.

One might assume from these pictures that we really really like scarecrows.

Ummm, that may or may not be true.  You see the papooses in this family insist that we should have four scarecrows outside (one to represent each of them, of course).  I heart the Dollar Tree.

The one on the inside stairs?  It was a gift from my mom years ago.  We call him, "Frankie".  Frankie lights up.  He is quite the fiber optic show.

Is fiber optic one word or two?  I'm sure the answer is at the touch of my mouse but I'm feeling lazy.

As for our fall decorating, it's not Better Homes and Gardens but it'll do.

    Now, we just need pumpkins!

  • Our patio . . .

     used to look like this

    Now it looks like this

We are going to put a pretty finish on it later this summer.  Isn't it a huge improvement?  As you can see the girls are enjoying it.  Now it is on to the next project.  It is all part of Operation Get Rid of Ugly.  We are well on our way, lol.

  • Antique Shopping

So okay, I went shopping in my dad’s barn again.  Under the pretense of helping him “clean” it out.  Well, I did my daughterly duty and brought home this awesome old church pew.

It came out of a church built by my maternal great-grandfather.  He also helped to build the pews.  Painting the bible verse on the slats was Brian’s idea.  He even suggested this particular verse, after I vetoed his first suggestion.  His first suggestion stemmed from how uncomfortable the pew actually is.  Can you imagine sitting on these during revival services for possibly hours?  Are you ready for Brian’s suggestion?  Are you sure you are ready for it?  Here it is:  “Don’t sit, have a Pentecostal fit!”  Now you know why I vetoed it.  I really wanted to use black paint but I had the blue left over from another project and was too cheap frugally minded to buy a black one.  I darkened it with a black sharpie and it looks great.  I should retake the pictures but I'm lazy and all.

Rejoice Evermore.  Pray Without Ceasing.  In every thing give Thanks.

We also brought home this awesome side table, stool,  side table.  Actually, Dad is not sure what it is.  He called it a stool.  Now, it is a side table.  Except for when Judah uses it to climb over the side of the couch and then I suppose it is a stool.

  • Yard Sale Treasure

Check out this “treasure” my mom found at a yard sale.

Isn't it great?  My mom finds the best yard sales.

Do you remember the washboard I included in my thankful list?

She is a pro at finding yard sale treasure.

  • I Mistreated My Windows (GASP)

After reading The "Nester's" tips on mistreating windows, I couldn't resist giving it a try.  You can read this southern gal's mistreating tips here:

     http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/search/label/window%20mistreatments

Now my attempt at mistreating is not nearly as glorious as her mistreatments but neither is my fabric collection.  I made a good attempt.  Sadly, I forgot to take a before picture.  Just take my word for it.  The new look is better.

I bought several yards of the floral fabric.  The long panels are curtains I already had.  I folded, tucked and fussed with the floral fabric.  Once I got it hanging the way I wanted, I used discreetly placed clothes pins to hold it in place.  No sewing.  The Nester is on to something.  Being the lovelies that y'all are, I know you won't notice the smudges and fingerprints on my window. Of course, you will notice how that if you squint slightly the floral valence matches the throw pillow on the loveseat.  Are you squinting?

  • Old Becomes New

My dad found this old window in the dairy at the farm house he grew up in.  It belonged to my great-grandmother.  Knowing my love of old things, he brought it to me.  It was really really dirty.  The glass was a dark shade of brown and the wood was crusted in black sod.  After some scrubbing and drying in the sun, I set to work on the glass.  Windex did the trick.
