  • Edible Playdough

With the nasty weather we've been having, I was glad for the indoor diversion.  It tastes similar to peanut butter fudge.

    Edible playdough:

    Equal Parts:
    Powdered Milk
    Smooth Peanut Butter
    Honey
    (Flour as needed)

Mix the first 3 together and then add enough flour until it reaches playdough consistency.  You could add food coloring to make different colors of playdough.  I just wasn't feeling that.  I was thinking stained fingers.  Enjoy!

  • Works For Me - Vista Print

My friend, Toni Jill, who makes boutique style hairbows for a very unboutique price, introduced me to Vista PrintWfmwbanner when she gave me one of her business cards.  When my husband needed business cards I told him to check them out.  He was able to get 250 business cards for FREE!  His only cost was the shipping.  I'm a fan of Vista Print.  But that's not the end of my Vista Print epic.

Every year (think ten years) we send out 100 Photo Christmas Cards.  It's a tradition that many of the great aunts and cousins now insist on.  It typically costs me anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on whether I use my own pictures or professional pictures.  This year a young lady photographer did our pictures for a sitting fee and gave us the copyright.  Vista Print did our 100 Photo Cards for ...drumroll please... $25!  Including Shipping!  I'm the president of their fan club.  Our photo card is above.  Yep.  I'm using it in my header.  I'm not cool that way.  The cards were less expensive and better quality.  They have a greeting printed on the back.  But I'm not finished.  $25 includes 100 cards, 100 envelopes, shipping ...drumroll please... 250 holiday address labels!  I  Vista Print!

They "Work For Me".  My cards will go out sometime next week.  Pretend you didn't see it on my blog, 'kay?

  • Laundry Edition

Laundry - my arch nemesis!  We do battle everyday.

Early in my married life, laundry kicked my butt!  I had mountains of it.  I did it alone.

What they say is true.  Many hands make light work.

I quickly learned that little kids can fold towels.  Having the towels put away in the closet matters more than perfectly folded towels.

The kids have fun playing our laundry games and even better I've found my bedroom floor.

So, here's what works for me -

    1.  Homemade Laundry Detergent (Phenomenal Savings!)

    2.  Homemade Dryer Sheets

    3.  Chore lists for the kids that include carrying dirty clothes, towels, and linens to the laundry room.

    4.  Laundry bin with three compartments for the kids to sort the laundry into.

When I arrive to do battle with the laundry each morning (I do at least one load each day), it is sorted and ready to go into the washer.  I wash, fold and hang the laundry.  The kids carry it back to their rooms.  We hit the reset button and do it all again the next day.  It's become so normal to us, that we don't even think about it anymore.

This totally works for me!  Now, I'm going over to Rocks In My Dryer to find out what works for you!

  • Works for Me: 3 Chapters A Day

I've tried "read the Bible in a year" charts and they did not work for me.  What has worked for me is reading three chapters a day.  Crystal at Biblical Womanhood shared her plan back in January to read three chapters of the Bible a day and finish in about a year. It sounded so easy that I joined her.  I've read my three chapters (sometimes more sometimes less) since January and it has worked for me.  I'm still reading and getting close to my goal!

  • Bed Head

This is my first Works For Me Wednesday.  After reading lots of great tips, I just had to join in.  For more Works For Me, go on over to http://rocksinmydryer.typepad.com/shannon/2008/05/works-for-me-ch.html.

With four little ones and the first three being girls – I’ve done a lot of hair fixin.  Little girls are pretty, if their hair is pretty.  If their hair is ugly, they are not so pretty.  It’s just plain and simple.  (Of course, pretty hair and tantrum throwing is also not so pretty but we can discuss that at another time.)  Something that has helped me keep their hair pretty is Johnson and Johnson “No More Bed Head”.   Love it!  But I ran out and can't find it anywhere.  I discovered that detangling spray does the same trick.

This stuff will get hair to lay down better and faster than hand licking.  It also smells good and is longer lasting than a hand lick.  In the winter, it works like a charm on flyaway hair from static.  So for those times when my kids fall asleep in the car only to wake up with their hair plastered up the side of their head, I am ready.  I keep little kid hair neat by sticking a bottle in my purse/diaper bag.  And yes, CVS has it so you can buy it with your extra ECB's.

Just so you know, I don't use it on my own hair.  I use stuff to give me bed head instead.

Apparently, Bed Head is in style for mom's. (lol)
