Sleeping Beauty
Katie, Gracie and I had a ladies day out. We were so excited to see Sleeping Beauty presented by the Barter Players. We were not disappointed. It was delightful!
Katie and Gracie are pictured with Princess Aurora and Queen Miranda. It was Gracie's first play. She loved it and is already asking when we will go again. As precious and enjoyable as the play is, the thing that touched me most is the Director's Notes. Here is what Director, John Hardy had to say,
"Let's face it kids... when you are awake you can be a lot of work. You're either too loud or you're not making any noise at all, which probably means that you're getting into something you shouldn't be getting into. When you are awake you have more energy that a herd of buffalo at a birthday party. You cry too loud when you are sad, you laugh too loud when you are happy. You drive us to exhaustion with worry because we never know what is going to happen next. And usually, what happens next is anything and everything because that's what you're usually getting into: anything and everything.
But when you are asleep you are all sleeping beauties. That's what adults see when they look down and there you lay, off in dreamland: sleeping beauties. Your parents, your aunts and uncles, your grandparents... they all look at you when you sleep and they see a wondrous adventure, they see a babbling brook, a cup of sand, a mouses' ear, they see all that is kind and perfect in the world... they see you, sleeping; their very own sleeping beauty."
John Hardy, I appreciate your thoughts. I appreciate your play. Thanks for a great day, Barter Players! I was privileged to savor a day out with my sleeping beauties.

Amanda!! I just read this post about your sleeping beauties and the beautiful gal on the right from the play is my sweet cousin Beth! She is from Abingdon and doing a terrific job as a Barter Player! We are so thrilled to have such a talented young lady in our family! I am glad you enjoyed the play and thanks for sharing John Hardy's thoughts!
Why, you mean Queen Miranda, Mother of Sleeping Beauty. You do have a talented family. We loved the play. The girls want to go back in July for the Frog Prince but we have vacation and other extras. I want to take them to the Elves and The Shoemaker in December. I enjoy plays more than movies, don't you? Didn't you just love Mr. Hardy's notes? They are so, true. I can't tell you how many times I've been ragged chasing these babies. But watching them sleep, it's magic. Somehow it makes all these adventurous days full of exhaustion worth it.
@ToniJill - I replied to you but forgot to actually reply to you, lol. Here's what I said,
