  • Homemade Dryer Sheets

I've been using the homemade laundry detergent for several months now and I'm still loving it.  I calculated that it costs $0.83 to make 2 gallons!  That is awesome savings, y'all.  So, when I saw a recipe for homemade dryer sheets, my curiosity was peaked.  I gave it a try and I am happy to report that I love it!  (Pictures below)

    Here's the recipe:

    2 cups water

    1 cup vinegar

2/3 cup of any hair conditioner

Mix by stirring.  Don't shake.  Soak a cloth rag and ring it out until slightly damp.  Then throw it into the dryer with your load of clothes.

I used an empty baby wipe container for my fabric softener.  I used socks that no longer have a match or have holes in them for rags.  I used conditioner from CVS.  It was FREE, of course!  So, the only thing I purchased was 1 gallon of distilled vinegar for $1.98.  The total cost comes to less than $0.13!  One recipe will do approximately 40 loads of laundry.  That is less than 1/2 cent per load!  It smells great and our clothes feel great!  Great smelling and feeling is real important to me.

I wrote on the box what it is just in case by some freak accident someone other than me puts clothes in the dryer.  I also wrote the recipe on the box, so, I don't have to worry about finding it when it is time to make more.

I started stirring it with a wooden spatula.  I changed to a wisk.  It worked a lot better.

Is that the sound of savings I hear?  Why yes, I believe it is!

Hooray for Frugal Friday!  Go check out the other tips.

  • Great tip! I just started using vinegar in my dryer, this week in fact. I'm lazy, so I just grab something out of that particular load and pour a couple tablespoons on it and throw it in with the rest. I like your method much better though, and the conditioner is a great addition as well. I might just have to whip up a batch this weekend!

  • I am definitely going to try this. Thanks for sharing. I hate buying pricey dryer sheets, but I love the feeling and scent they leave on our clothes.

  • Tell the truth now, who is really going to put the clothes in the dryer but you?  I know, you said "freak accident" but I have a better chance of being struck by lightening than someone putting the laundry in the dryer here!  I am so allergic to dryer sheets, maybe this would be a good compromise for me, because my 15 year old loves them!!

  • Wow that is soooo cool... • @fiveintow - It is sooo easy, you'll love it! The conditioner and vinegar smell so nice!

  • @Audra Krell - You're right!  It's just wishful thinking, lol.  I hope you are not allergic to the homemade recipe because it makes your clothes smell and feel wonderful!

  • Wow - sounds so easy - I have heard that vinegar works well, but my husband SWEATS so much, and when the clothes are wet again, they STINK.  The conditioner might solve that for us.  Thanks!

  • I tried this by spraying some on a rag and tossing it in...but I'm still having static issues. Do you think I'm not using enough? Do you ever have static-y clothes?
    Thanks,

  • @duckygirl27 - No static issues here.  I think you are right, try using more.

  • @mkmusicgal - My husband works outside a lot and we both workout (lots of sweat, lol).  I'd definetly notice if we were stinkin'.  (I've got a sensitive nose.)  Hope it works for you!

  • Hi Friend!  I am so glad you are loving the bows!  I am having a great time making them and would be thrilled to make some more for pony tails!  Let me know what other color board and bows you need for your neice and thanks for thinking of helping me out while buying her a present!  I really appreciate the business and we will be home next weekend (July 26th) for my 10 year high school reunion so let me know and I will have everything by then!

Also, thanks for the comments and encouragement about the job at LCF.  We have actually had two meetings with Jeff and Peggy and are praying diligently for the Lords direction on the situation.  Please pray with us that the Lord will show us His path in His "due time".  Thanks again!

We are headed to Disney with the family!  It will be a week before I am back at the computer but let me know about the bow stuff and I will get it together the following week before we come home!
