Online Spelling Program
If you have school age children, you need to know about Spelling City. It is an online spelling program that makes practicing for spelling tests fun! It allows you to enter your child's current spelling list. Perfect for our homeschool.
SpellingCity.com has:
- Over 38,000 spelling words and eight spelling games!
- A REAL person who says each vocabulary word and sentence
- Thousands of free spelling lists. Or save your own spelling word list!
- A free forum and newsletter with more spelling resources!- Eight spelling and vocabulary games to play with your lists. After taking the online spelling test, students can print out a report, retake the entire test, or get tested only on spelling words that they got wrong on the first time spelling test.
TeachMe spells and displays the word in ways that stimulate memory for visual and verbal learners.
Printable Games include WordSearch, UnScramble, WhichWord? and MissingLetter.
Printable Handwriting Worksheets for combined spelling and handwriting practice can be created from any saved list (this feature only works if the list is saved). Choices includes three sizes of lines, capitals or small letters, script or cursive, and with directional arrows on or off. Very cool, huh? After setting up my account (it was quick and easy), I took a few moments to enter the spelling list. My daughters log in and choose the list they are working on. Review is so easy because all the lists are saved. They can go back and practice past lists.
This definitely works for me!

Sounds wonderful. I think I am going to hop the next bus for spelling ciyty!
We just found this site a couple weeks ago, and it is really neat! My kid loves doing his tests on the computer, and it frees me up to do something else while he's testing.
Hey there!
Thanks for the great link! I am always looking for fresh new ideas with homeschooling!

random thoughts from a not so random mom
God bless you! Our homeschooling spelling routine was super boring and now I have a new resource to challenge my children! Thanks a million!
Cool! Thanks.
Thanks for the link. I am always looking for things to help my son.. learn!! And he loves the computer!
Thanks for posting this great site. My 7& 4 year old loved it. ...4 year old is not spelling much but she loved watching the cat and mouse game.
Another site that I think is related to SpellingCity is Vocabulary. They both have the HangMouse Game (which my kids love). Vocabulary's best game is a game that teaches common English expressions that they call the slang word game.
And yes, SpellingCity.com is as cool as it gets. Have you seen their new game for practicing alphabetical order?
@Vocabulary - Hmmm... I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommend.
Awesome! My kids love being on the computer...I will have to try this out!
thanks sooooo much for this Pedro has been stuggling with spelling and I was looking for a way for him to practice that wouldn't be like pulling teeth ... he may actually have fun and learn something in the process ... thanks again
