  • Towel Dilemma

Every Wednesday, Kristen at We Are THAT Family hosts a blog Carnival, Works for Me Wednesday.  You will literally find hundreds of tips that work for you them me.  This week's carnival is a reverse works for me.  Instead of offering a tip, I ask you to give me a tip.  Which leads to.... (Drumroll please)

    My towel dilemma.

Our current towels are pretty much rags (a thorn in my homemaking side). I'm eagerly biding my time to replace them.  In my anticipation, please share where, what, why, and how to buy towels.  Where do you find the best deal on bath towels?  Which brand holds up to frequent use and laundering?

  • Our towels were terrible and I was trying to replace them 1 at a time. Finally I set my mind to it and found the fluffier towels 2/$5 and I took $20 and bought 8 towels. That was the best $20 I spent in a long time. It was like luxury. We use our old towels now for clean up towels. I shop online before buying. I go to the weekly ad of the stores I can shop at and usually take the ad to Walmart and have them to match it. Saves a lot of running around!

  • @candyshort - What brand of towels did you buy?  You bought them at Walmart?

  • I really like the Martex towels we bought from Kohls (on sale, of course).  That said, we bought towels from another Martex line and they didn't hold up nearly as well, so I'm hesitant to recommend them wholeheartedly.

Isn't January supposed to be the month for white sales?  Check the store ads online and maybe you can find a great deal!

  • After buying towels at numerous places, I've come to the conclusion that JC Penney Classic towels are the best. They hold up great and their colors seem to resist changing too much.WalMart also has sturdy towels, but their towels don't seem to hold onto their color as well. I have some towels from the early 80's from JC Penney that have yet to fray, wear thin or tear. My mom gave them to me just so she could have a reason to buy new towels to match her new bathroom.

  • @Melissa - @Heather - Thanks guys!  I will def be checking ads, Melissa.  Thanks for the JC Penney tip, Heather.  That's what I'm wanting.  Something durable that will hold up well.

  • I love white towels so that I can wash them with all of my whites!

  • I don't know what brand to recommend, since I've had equally good luck with the high-quality towels I got for high school graduation (both going strong almost 19 years later!) and the ones I bought a few years later at 2/$5 in a discount store!

My durability secret: LINE DRY!!  You'll save a lot of energy, esp. with towels since they hold a lot of water.  They feel crunchy after drying, but if you don't like that (my family has learned to perceive it as a sign of cleanliness!) you can put them in the dryer on a short no-heat cycle to fluff them after they're dry.

  • @iwannahavecrazyfun - @'Becca - Thanks for all the great advice!  I've been checking and haven't found my "great" deal, yet.  I'm gonna patiently watch those sales!

  • Fastidious blog you’ve got here. I’ve ever been seeing you just about many blogs recently.
