  • Microwave Krispies Treats

My kids love it when I make Rice Krispies Treats.  One day I decided to whip some up and didn't check to see how much cereal was in the Rice Krispies Box.  I discovered too late that it was 1/2 the called for amount.  What to do?  What to do?  I decided for better or worse to add Corn Flakes...

They were a hit!  The chief and the littles liked them even better!  So now, we always make Rice Krispies Treats with Corn Flakes.

    • 3 Tablespoons Butter
    • 1 Package (10 oz, about 40) Regular Marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows
    • 3 Cups Rice Krispies Cereal
    • 3 Cups Corn Flakes Cereal

In a large microwave safe bowl, heat butter and marshmallows on high for 2 minutes.  Stir.  Heat 1 minute.  Stir until smooth.  Add cereal.  Stir until well coated.  Using buttered spatula press mixture evenly into 13x9 pan coated with cooking spray.  When cool, cut into squares, and enjoy!

Optional:  Add 3/4 cup peanutbutter to the butter and marshmallows.

  • Yum!  I shall have to try them very soon!  Do you ever use marshmallow cream instead?  I think I have that instead of marshmallows....Let me know!

  • @ToniJill - I'm sure marshmallow creme would work great.  Just reduce the amount of cereal according to the amount of marshmallow creme.  The recipe calls for 10 oz of marshmallows.  I think a jar of marshmallow creme is only 7 oz.  So I'd probably only add 5 cups of cereal.  Just eyeball it.  lol

  • I didn't want to click on your link because I was SURE that I would start craving rice krispie treats.  And sure enough I am!  I've never tried it with the corn flakes.  I've tried Berry Cheerios before though that were quite yummy.  I'll try corn flakes next time.  Thanks!

  • Corn flakes! What a wonderful idea! My main problem is that my kids eat up all the cereal before I can make anything with it. LOL  Did I mention I have 3 teens in the house!?!
