  • Heartache Changes You

The thing about heartache is... it changes your perspective on life.  It can make you bitter (if you let it) or it can make you better (if you let it).  It can make you more understanding.  It can make you love bigger.  It can make you able to help others who experience the same hurt.

Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits. Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.” Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:14-21

Being right in the eyes of others doesn’t matter as much as being faithful to the heart of God.   The people who hurt us, are the ones we spend the most time with. We laugh with them, cry with them, counsel them, equip and empower them.  So what do you do… never trust again, never love again, never pour into lives again?  You do it again.

    My friends, there is hope.

  • Excellent post, thanks so much for sharing.

  • sometimes it frightens me how much bitterness continues to poison me both in my thought life and in turn my physical life....i know that they are blessings that can be claimed, that healing can come...but it runs so deep when you let it. thank you for this reminder.

  • Thanks for the timely reminder! Just now coming out of a very dark place and trying to let others get close to me again. It's not an easy thing. Thank you! This was just what I needed to read............just when I needed to read it!

  • I like how you put it...circumstances can make you "  It can make you bitter or better" :)   Quite true!

  • @mytoesareblue - @SealedbyGrace - It can be excrutiatingly hard, can't it?  I find myself struggling to get past hurts and find a willingness to be close to others.  Your comments mean a lot to me.  I am praying for you.  Please pray for me.

challenging words that point to purpose and comfort too. thanks. you reminded of a fav quote that i have taped right here at my desk, "you are so much neater a person healed, than you would have been just plain well."
