  • Josiah: 10 months

I'm devastated blown away that my New Year's baby is about to be a year old.  He has twelve teeth.  Shakes head for "no". Tries to wrestle with dad and big brother.  He wins, for now.  Time changed and he didn't (way to mess up a baby's schedule, daylight savings).  He doesn't like shoes but needs to wear them because he walks everywhere.  Sweet as ever.

2012, why are you passing so quickly?  So cruel.

  • Cherry Delight Salad

This recipe has been a Trent Tribe fave for years now.  (Don't know why I'm just now getting around to sharing it on the blog?)  It is easy to double (or triple or quadruple) for a crowd.  I recently made it for our Passport Small Group at church.

    1 can Eagle brand milk
    1 can cherry pie filling
    1 lg. container Cool Whip
    1 can crushed pineapple, drained

    Mix it all together.  Refrigerate.

    So easy.  Seriously yummy.

  • Zombie Run 5k

The Chief ran his first 5k in Bluffton, SC yesterday evening.  He RAN.  All of it.  Without stopping.  Unless you count the few seconds he stopped to tie his shoe.

The kids and I cheered him across the finish line!

The kids joined the festivities in their costumes.

Our friends came to cheer him on!

I'm so proud of my husband.  Katie's next.  Who knows?  Maybe the running bug will bite me before it's over.  ;)

  • Just a Swingin'

Oh my, how serious it is.

  • Sugar Coated Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

If you are going to carve a pumpkin, you might as well use those seeds!  This recipe is just too yummy.

    • 1 cup of seeds
    • 1 tablespoon melted butter
    • 2 tablespoons sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon allspice
    • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Scoop seeds out of pumpkin.  Wash thoroughly.  Pat dry with paper towels.  Don't leave them on the paper towels to dry completely.  They'll stick!  In a bowl coat seeds with butter and seasonings.  Spread onto a baking sheet.  Sprinkle with a dash of salt.  I covered my baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy clean up.  Bake at 300 degrees for 45 - 60 min.  Take them out when they are crunchy.

The delightful aroma is reason enough to make them.  Heavenly!

  • Breathe. (Week 2)

We continued our message series "breathe." at LHC .  This week as I prayed for the Chief, our church, and the message - I ran across something so beautiful the Chief asked me to share during worship yesterday and I wanted to share with you today.

Breathe in, breathe out. Listen as you breathe. Breathe from your mouth, in and now out. Can you hear it? Do you perceive something profound?

When God spoke His name to Moses in Exodus 3:14, it sounded to Moses like the breath of God. The Hebrew letters, YHWH, when coupled with the appropriate vowel points, sound of whole-hearted breathing.

In both Hebrew and Greek, the word for spirit is the same as the word for breath. Our God is present in all things. His Spirit permeates every aspect of life. He is so everything, that His name is on our lips even as we breathe. In fact, the very first thing we do when we live on earth is draw our first breath, and the very last thing we do is draw our last breath.

Psalm 150:6 says, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!"  This is not just a command.  IT IS FACT!  Yahweh!  His name is on our lips even as we breathe.

  • He's Just Cute

    Half-dressed baby on the loose.

Now if I can just figure out what he did with that other sock.

  • Printable Scripture Cards

I love doing the ABC Scriptures  with the littles (and the bigs when they were still littles).  My set is old and not very eye-pleasing.  I had tried to win a new set from "lil' light o' mine" in giveaways at other blogs.  No luck.  You can not imagine my excitement when I found free printable ABC Scripture Cards.  With these everybody is a winner!  Yay!

I love the way she has hers on a cute little ring with a ribbon.  I'm cheap I'm all about using what I have on hand and liked the idea of displaying them like this:

Go here to print a set of your own.  These cards really are just the sweetest.  So worth the ink!

  • Breathe. (Week 1)

The Chief started a new message series at our church yesterday called "breathe."  He talked a lot about being empowered by the Holy Spirit to do God's will.  Once you've experienced that empowering, you know exactly what the Chief was talking about (check out a previous post - "Momentum").

It is so amazing to find that sweet spot where our efforts are extra blessed.  That place where all we do just seems to go a little further or do a little more.  It's a wonderful place to be!

Things he shared that I loved,

    • And with that Jesus breathed on them and said "Receive the Holy Spirit." John 20:22
    • When God breathes on us we need to take it in and then give it away to others.
    • God didn't give us a Bible to decorate the coffee table.

There are times that we pray and pray asking God to bless us in our OWN will, while we pursue our OWN desires.  We ask our pastor or others to pray that God will bless us as we do what we want with our lives.  Perhaps we are pursuing a relationship, making a large purchase, choosing to go a certain direction, whatever it is - we need to be seeking to do the will of God empowered by the Holy Spirit.

May we pursue God's will for our lives and may the power of the Holy Spirit add the "more blessed" to all our efforts.
